Pinnacle walk route options and how long the return trip takes
According to the information we got from our accommodations in Grampians- 🔗Breeze Holiday Park Grampians, there are three starting points for reaching Pinnacle Lookout:
| Route Starting Point | Distance (return trip) | Hiking Duration |
| 1. Halls Gap | 9.6 km | About 5 hours (most challenging) |
| 2. Sundial Carpark | 4.2 km | 1.5–2 hours (easiest option) |
| 3. Wonderland Carpark | 4.2 km | 2–3 hours (includes Grand Canyon & Silent Street) |
We chose the third route from Wonderland Carpark, went through the Grand Canyon and Silent Street to reach Pinnacle Lookout. On the way back, we returned to the junction near the Grand Canyon and then took the other path (the one on the left) back down to the carpark.
Although the estimated time we saw was 2.5–3 hours, it took us about 3.5 hours to complete the walk. This was mainly because we hiked at a slow, relaxed pace, stopped often for photos, and waited along the way for my sister, who doesn’t hike very often.

Is it worth hiking to Pinnacle Lookout?
Hiking up to Pinnacle Lookout from Wonderland Carpark can be a bit challenging, but the panoramic view on the top is stunning and definitely worth the effort.
Plus, the trail itself is what makes the experience even more special. The natural rocky paths, the unique formations, and the changing landscapes along the way create a journey that’s even more interesting, fun and rewarding than the final viewpoint itself. This route is one of the must-do experiences in the Grampians, just make sure your fitness level can handle it before going.
What to prepare before hiking to Pinnacle Lookout?
The Pinnacle walk is definitely worth it, but make sure to check your physical condition before heading out. It’s not a trail you want to push yourself too hard on.
If you feel confident after evaluating yourself, here’s what you should prepare before your hike:
1. Enough water
2. Thin raincoat (or small umbrella): you never know how the weather will be.
3. If you visit in the cold season, make sure to weather enough clothes, up in the top is windy and cold.
4. Hiking pole: it can possibly help you hike easier.
5. Comfortable, non-slip sneakers: A good pair of shoes can make a huge difference. Since we knew this hike would be challenging, we all wore Asics Kayano sneakers, which provided decent cushioning and stability, kept us comfortable and helped prevent our feet and legs from suffering too much.
6. Some snacks: the route is long, make sure to bring some snacks on the way.

Grampians National Park Hotel and accommodation recommendation
Accommodation options in the Grampians are relatively limited, with most hotels, cabins concentrated around Halls Gap.

I highly recommend 🔗Breeze Holiday Parks (Grampians), where we stayed during our trip. They offer a range of cabin options suitable for different group sizes. Since we were traveling as a family, we chose the Deluxe Family Cabin, which worked perfectly for us.
It offered a clean, cozy & cute cabin with 2 bedrooms, a little living room, a fully equipped kitchen and both AC and heating. It’s not huge but has everything you need. And the price is fair, I highly recommend it.
You can compare the price 🔗on this platform and 🔗this site. Both offer great discounts sometimes!
If you want to stay right in Halls Gap town centre, within walking distance to restaurants and shops, 🔗Breeze Holiday Park Halls Gap is another great option. Plus, you can often spot wild kangaroos around Halls Gap.
One important note: for both locations, make sure to book the deluxe option. Based on our experience, the deluxe rooms were great, while the budget ones tend to have negative reviews online.
Restaurant recommendations in Grampians National Park
For restaurants and food, I recommend Pizza at 🔗Town Fryer Fish & Chips Pizza Bar . It is surprisingly good, cheesy, full of flavour and not dry at all.
You can also try some pastries 🔗here. The Spinach & Feta cheese, steak & mushroom, steak & bacon flavours pies are all approved by us!
